EcoShrink installed temporary construction screens at Perkins Engines’ factory in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. Custom shrink wrap screens and a simple support framework created a sealed bay around upgrade works, helping to control dust and debris while the rest of the factory stayed live.
Project Overview
Perkins Engines needed to carry out a critical phase of factory upgrades without exposing surrounding production areas to dust and debris. Traditional site sheeting and generic barriers would not provide enough containment or flexibility in a live manufacturing environment.
EcoShrink was engaged to design and install temporary construction screens that would isolate the work zone, maintain safe access and keep production running. By combining shrink wrap screens with a tailored support framework, EcoShrink created a dust barrier that went from plan to operational in a single day
Challenges on site
Works taking place in a live factory where production needed to continue. Tight deadline for installing dust protection without delaying the upgrade programme. Requirement to contain dust and debris more effectively than standard building site screens. High-traffic environment with multiple access routes and pathways to keep open. Need for a solution that was durable but still allowed easy access for staff and equipment.
Our solution
EcoShrink designed a custom shrink wrap construction screen system that balanced dust control, access and speed of installation.
Scope & planning: Assessed the facility layout to identify the area needing containment and the clean production zones. Mapped out entry points, walkways and equipment routes to avoid congestion and keep workflows moving. Designed a temporary support framework that could be installed quickly without obstructing key routes.
Shrink wrap construction screens: Installed shrink wrap screens to create a sealed enclosure around the upgrade works area. Used heat to tension and tighten the wrap, forming a continuous barrier against dust and debris. Carefully detailed joints and edges to limit gaps while maintaining practical access
Support framework & access: Built a lightweight scaffolding-style framework to support the screens securely in the factory environment. Set out openings and access points so staff and equipment could move freely without cutting or removing screens. Aligned screen positions with existing workflows to minimise disruption to production.
Safety and speed: Planned the installation to be completed and made operational within a single day. Worked to site safety standards throughout, coordinating closely with Perkins Engines’ team to manage movements in a live environment. This approach delivered rapid, effective dust control without halting essential factory processes.
Results
Temporary construction screens were installed and operational within one day, meeting the client’s tight deadline. Dust and debris from the upgrade works were contained within the screened area, improving conditions in surrounding production zones. Factory operations continued as scheduled, with access routes and workflows maintained throughout the installation and works.
Asset integrity and worker safety were supported by better dust control and clearer separation between work and production areas. The project demonstrated how shrink wrap construction screens can deliver rapid internal dust protection on complex industrial sites.

FAQ
Why did Perkins Engines need temporary construction screens?
Perkins Engines was upgrading part of its factory while production in surrounding areas continued. Temporary construction screens were needed to contain dust and debris from the works so nearby production zones and equipment stayed cleaner and safer during the upgrade phase.
How quickly were the construction screens installed?
The shrink wrap construction screens and support framework were designed and installed so the system was operational within a single day. This rapid deployment allowed the client to maintain their tight upgrade schedule without extended downtime.
Did the screens affect access and factory workflows?
The screen layout and framework were planned around existing access routes and pathways, with openings positioned to keep people and equipment moving. This meant dust control could be improved without blocking critical routes or causing major changes to day-to-day workflows.
