EcoShrink delivered premium marine shrink wrapping and weather protection for Sunseeker Portland. High-performance shrink wrap was installed on the exterior scaffolding around Sunseeker vessels to create a controlled environment for marine painting, protecting high-value assets from weather and helping maintain consistent temperature during coating and cure.
Project overview
Sunseeker Portland needed a way to protect high-value vessels during painting and refurbishment in an exposed coastal environment. The works demanded a clean, stable internal climate for specialist marine paints, but the site was open to harsh weather and fluctuating temperatures. EcoShrink was brought in to design and install a shrink wrap system around the external scaffolding, creating a sealed work zone where Sunseeker’s teams could work to the finish standards expected of a premium marine brand.
Challenges on site
High-value Sunseeker vessels where even minor damage or defects could be costly. Harsh coastal weather and fluctuating temperatures affecting paint application and cure. Need for a controlled internal environment for specialist marine coatings. Requirement to protect hulls and superstructures from rain, dust and overspray during works Maintaining safe and practical access for Sunseeker’s paint and refit teams around the scaffold.
Our marine shrink wrapping solution
EcoShrink installed a high-performance shrink wrap system around the exterior scaffold to turn an exposed work area into a controlled painting enclosure.
Scaffold encapsulation
Wrapped the external scaffolding around the marine painting area with high-grade shrink wrap. Heat-shrunk the film to create a tight, continuous skin that resisted wind and water ingress. Carefully detailed seams and penetrations to minimise gaps and draughts, supporting temperature and dust control.
Weather and temperature control
The encapsulated scaffold provided robust weather protection, shielding vessels from rain, wind and airborne contamination. The sealed environment enabled Sunseeker teams to trap heat and maintain a stable internal temperature, crucial for consistent marine paint curing Reduced risks of runs, blooming and other finish defects caused by fluctuating surface and air temperatures.
Clean, controlled work zone
The shrink wrap enclosure acted as a barrier against dust and overspray, helping keep surfaces clean between prep and coating stages. Provided a defined, secure workspace that supported careful handling of specialist paints and equipment The system aligned with Sunseeker’s expectations for care, precision and asset protection on high-value marine projects.
Results
Sunseeker Portland gained a controlled, weatherproof painting environment around their vessels, even in exposed coastal conditions. Stable internal temperatures supported high-quality marine paint finishes and reduced the risk of temperature-related defects. Assets were shielded from rain, dust and overspray, reducing rework and protecting hulls and topsides during the programme. Weather-related delays were minimised, helping projects stay on schedule and reinforcing the value of premium shrink wrapping for marine works.
FAQ
Why did Sunseeker Portland need premium marine shrink wrapping?
Sunseeker Portland needed to protect high-value vessels during painting and refurbishment in an exposed coastal environment. Premium marine shrink wrapping created a sealed, weatherproof enclosure around the scaffold so the team could work in a controlled climate with reduced risk of damage or finish defects.
How did the shrink wrap improve paint finish quality?
By enclosing the scaffold and trapping heat, the shrink wrap helped maintain a more stable internal temperature and reduced the impact of wind and moisture. This supported consistent curing conditions for specialist marine paints, improving finish quality and reducing the likelihood of temperaturerelated issues.
Did the system also protect against dust and overspray?
Yes. The shrink wrap formed a continuous barrier around the work zone, limiting dust ingress and preventing overspray from escaping into the surrounding area. This helped keep vessel surfaces cleaner between coats and supported better control over the paint process.
