EcoShrink installed BIOSHRINK as scaffold weather protection on an Oxford shopfront, behind a street-facing scaffold while window updates and render works were carried out internally. A straightforward, single-day job, but one where presentation, pavement clearance and a clean visual finish all mattered, with pedestrians passing within a couple of metres of the working scaffold.
The brief
Oxford shopfront scaffolds bring familiar pressures: a busy pavement-facing elevation, footfall passing directly underneath, and a building that still needs to read as a controlled, presentable site even while works are live behind the screen. The main contractor needed reliable weather protection for the internal window and render works, and a clean external screen that wouldn't flap, tear or look reactive at street level.
What we did
EcoShrink specified BIOSHRINK for the scaffold cover and completed the installation in a single day. The film was fixed to the scaffold and heat-welded to form a tight, tensioned outer skin, a markedly cleaner finish than loose sheeting in a shopfront environment where the scaffold is read at close range from the pavement.
Detailing focused on the elements the public actually sees: bottom edges along the pavement, fixings at street-level scaffold lifts, corners and returns onto adjoining elevations, and clean cuts around any access points needed during the works. With the internal trades working on windows and render, the BIOSHRINK screen kept weather off the working faces and held the site visually contained.
Why BIOSHRINK
BIOSHRINK is the construction-grade shrink wrap EcoShrink uses across every project, biodegradable and fully recyclable, engineered to install and perform exactly like conventional shrink wrap. For a job like this, that means the same single-day install, the same clean tensioned finish, and the same heat-welded performance on a public-facing scaffold, with a more responsible end-of-life route built in.
Outcome
The shopfront scaffold went from open and exposed to fully enclosed within a day, ready for the internal window and render works to run uninterrupted. Pedestrian access alongside stayed clear throughout, and the scaffold presented as a tidy, controlled site rather than a reactive one, which on a busy Oxford street is part of the job, not an afterthought.
Frequently asked questions
Can a BIOSHRINK shopfront scaffold wrap be installed in a single day?
Yes. For a typical street-facing shopfront scaffold of this scale, BIOSHRINK can be installed in a day by a competent installation team. Larger or multi-elevation scaffolds will take longer, and the right approach is to confirm scope, scaffold size and access during the specification conversation.
Is shrink wrap suitable for scaffolds with pedestrians passing directly underneath?
Yes, when planned and detailed correctly. A heat-welded BIOSHRINK screen is tensioned and fixed properly, so it doesn't flap or tear in the way loose sheeting can, which matters when the public is within a couple of metres of the scaffold. Edge detailing at pavement level and around any access points should always be reviewed before installation.
