EcoShrink supplied modular building covers to protect volumetric homes being delivered to multiple sites across the UK. Heavy-duty shrink wrap and simple support frames turned each unit into a sealed “package”, helping the developer move and store modular homes with less weather risk, less cleaning and fewer handover snags.

Project Overview

The client delivers modular homes to sites across the UK on a rolling basis. They wanted a way to protect each module from weather, road dirt and handling damage between factory, storage yard and final plot. Tarpaulins and loose covers were not giving a consistent seal or a neat presentation on arrival. EcoShrink provided shrink-wrapped modular building covers that turned each unit into a sealed, tidy package for transport and storage. The approach improved weather protection, reduced cleaning and supported a more professional handover at each site.

Challenges on programme

Protecting modular homes through multiple movements (factory → yard → site) Exposure to high-speed winds, rain, mud and road grime during UK-wide transport Risk of water ingress, staining and minor impact damage without sealed covers. Need for a clean, presentable finish on arrival for clients and future homeowners Varying unit sizes and configurations requiring flexible, repeatable protection.

Our solution

EcoShrink designed a modular building cover approach built around shrink wrap and simple support structures that can be repeated at scale.

Scope & planning

Reviewed the client’s typical module sizes, handling points and transport routes Identified contact points where covers needed extra protection during lifting and hauling Agreed a standard approach for both direct-to-site deliveries and interim storage.

Shrink wrap modular covers

Installed custom-fitted shrink wrap covers around each modular unit, using heat to create a tight, sealed skin Used heat-sealed seams to minimise the risk of water ingress and reduce flapping in transit Included clear window panels where needed so units could be identified and inspected without opening the cover.

Transport & storage protection

Ensured covers were robust enough for long road journeys, including exposure to spray, mud and wind Advised on yard storage, so wrapped modular units stayed protected during interim holds before final assembly Provided handling guidance so lifting, strapping and positioning could be done without compromising the covers This approach gave the developer a repeatable, scalable solution for protecting modular homes at every stage between factory and handover

Results

Modular homes arrived on UK sites clean and undamaged, reducing snag lists linked to transport and storage Sealed covers reduced the risk of water ingress, dirt and wind-related damage to external finishes A more consistent, tidy appearance on arrival supported the developer’s brand and client presentation Fewer weather- and cleaning-related delays at receiving sites, helping keep installation programmes moving A scalable modular cover method that can be applied to single units or large multi-unit developments.

FAQ

Why did the developer choose shrink wrap modular building covers over tarpaulins?

Loose tarpaulins and temporary covers can flap in transit, leave gaps at edges and allow water and dirt to reach the module. Shrink wrap modular building covers create a tight, sealed skin that is less prone to movement, helps keep out weather and road grime, and gives a cleaner, more professional appearance on arrival.

Do the covers work for both transport and interim storage?

Yes. The same shrink wrap covers can protect modular units during road transport and while they are stored in a yard before final installation. The sealed skin helps reduce staining, water ingress and dust build-up, provided handling guidance is followed and covers are inspected for any damage that needs resealing.

Can this approach scale from single modular units to full developments?

The cover method is designed to be repeatable. Once typical module sizes and handling points are understood, the same approach can be applied to single units or large batches, giving consistent protection and presentation across multi-unit developments.
